The Redemption Of Matthew Quinn (Four Seasons In Firefly Glen)
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Harlequin (October, 2002)
Author: Kathleen O'brien
Average review score:

Winner of the WordWeaving Award for Excellence
On what should have been her wedding day, Natalie Granville drinks too much, gets a bit too much sun, and balances precariously on a balustrade; that is, just before landing in Matthew Quinn's arms. Perhaps her decision against marrying a millionaire may have an unexpected payoff, even if Summer House crumbles down around her head. Even Matthew's confession of his past does not dissuade Natalie from what she wants.

Ex-con Matthew arrives at Summer House to apply for a job as a handyman, and plans to walk away from temptation. But Natalie's flair for life irresistibly draws him. His speech and demeanor suggest he would be more comfortable in Armani suits than faded jeans, but Mathew's parole depends upon finding work outside the financial world he once knew. Further, he's never met anyone as open and gullible as Natalie nor more beguiling.

The third installment of the Four Seasons In Firefly Glen series, THE REDEMPTION OF MATTHEW QUINN is a marvelous read. Natalie and Matthew come from vastly different worlds. She needs his help; he needs a new beginning. Together they find magic. Indeed, with this hero and heroine author Kathleen O'Brien creates characters that readers will come to love, including a wonderful secondary plot complete with young love. Further, the town of Firefly Glen comes alive, revisiting old friends and introducing characters readers will be reluctant to leave. A quirky, original, fun read, THE REDEMPTION OF MATTHEW QUINN earns the WordWeaving Award for Excellence.

This Book Sparkles!
Kathleen O'Brien returns us to Firefly Glen with characters who will capture your heart.

Ex-con Matthew Quinn needs a place to rebuild his life, even though the stop will be temporary, and he chooses Firefly Glen in Upstate New York. While in prison the former financial advisor built homes for needy people, so when eccentric Natalie Granville advertises for a handyman to help repair her crumbling mansion, Matthew answers her ad.

Instead of an old woman, he finds gorgeous Natalie more than a little drunk and teetering on the verandah balcony wearing a minuscule white bikini. She falls, but Matthew races to the rescue and saves her from injury, finding himself more than a little interested in his new employer. She hires him on the spot.

The next day she nurses a whopping hangover. Matthew unsuccessfully tries to discourage her from hiring him, saying that she wasn't herself. But Natalie's mind is made up. Even his ex-con status poses no problem for the lovely nurserywoman. In fact, getting Matthew to commit to more than just the house repair becomes Natalie's erstwhile goal.

This story sparkles with some of the best dialoge you'll find. Situations are humorous and touching, and you'll find yourself cheering for the irrepressible Natalie and the gunshy Matthew. Secondary characters are beautifully drawn in this delightful story. Don't miss it.

Religions of the World
It is the most concise material I have found on the subject. While in school I used it for a reference book when writing papers, now I read through it when I am unsure about a religious practice. It clarifies any questions you might have on any given (major) religion.

Gorgeous illustrations, easy to understand text
This book is really beautiful! It helps the student and the teacher to explore the great wisdom traditions of the world. The illustrations are plentiful and lovely, the text easy to comprehend. A great book!

The Round Towers of Atlantis
Published in Paperback by Adventures Unlimited Press (November, 2002)
Author: Henry O'Brien
Average review score:

"An oracle discerning the hidden history of Ireland"
This book when published in the 1830's was a mind-blower, in that it totally dismantled previous conceptions about Irelands' past and its infinite mysteries as a mystical Isle. As an Irishman reading this book, and having received much nonsense about the ancient history of Ireland as a child, the book was a revelation. In one quickfire second, Henry O'Brien shook the pillars and columns of the Ecclesiastics' orthodoxy to its foundations.

Using that uniquely Irish landmark - the Round Tower - as his source, O'Brien interwove a miscellany of subjects like Buddhism, Hinduism, Mithraism, Linguistics, Gaelic customs, Language and attire, Persia, India, Egypt, Irish place names into an elongated thread of one book. The epicentre of this span of subjects was ancient Ireland and those magical people the Tuatha De Danaan!

What is most remarkable is the book stands the test of time; the research and level of scholarly endeavour is astounding. O'Brien exposed myths, untruths and misconceptions of Ireland's ancient past; he unearthed secrets which had been hidden in the deep recesses of time - tablet sealed - which hadn't been broken or penetrated hereto.

To do all this is a remarkable achievement; O'Brien defied orthodoxy - he unravelled the orthodox narrative that had been handed down by conventional dogma about the mysteries of the sacred Isle; in the process, he solved time honoured riddles; he posed fundamental questions and consistently answered those questions. Using his brilliant talent for linguistics and his collossus of learning, O'Brien's writing and synopsis was mesmerising; he opened a Pandora box. But such is the quaintness and seductiveness of the book that O'Brien displayed a penchant to vary the narrative at the appropriate time; included are fascinating illustrations and invariably he endowed each section with a poem as an appendage!

The most salient image that reflects itself like a silhouette in the mind's eye was O'Brien's logic: his arguments were persuasive, very convincing and his shield was passion and great purpose. O'Brien was a master at breaking things down into definites - his was an exacting science.

In conclusion, in the nineteenth century Henry O'Brien was a ground breaker; he chartered new territory hitherto uncovered by the sweeping sickle of academia. The most amazing and startling thing is that, arguably no scholar of renown or author to this day has tackled such a phalanx of subjects in one go - in one fell swoop; that the tautly bound secrets and mummification of Ireland's past haven't been unwound or unbound by any comparable unraveller of untruths since O'Brien's day.

Truly 'The Round Towers of Atlantis' is the most seminal, definitive, dam-bursting, revelatory, scholarly account of the Irish Round Towers, the Tuatha De Danaan and Ireland's ancient past extant. O'Brien's vision and perception wade through and clear away the unfathomable mists surrounding the mysteries of this sacred Isle. He shows the wonder that was IRELAND; he re-visits this magical place; he holds up -like a magical apotheosis - the Tuatha De Danaan and unveils the rays of their wondrous glory.

This book is a must read; it is an oracle; a key that opens the portal to the hidden history of Eireann. It is eternal because its domain was inscribed with an investigators plume recreating the glorious vista; its raison d'etre is truth. In this book, Henry O'Brien found the inner sanctum; its pulse beats to the rhythm of infinite time.

A treasury of arcane knowledge
The Round Towers Of Atlantis by Henry O'Brien is the welcome reprint of a long out-of-print seminal work offering a profound wealth of esoteric wisdom and lore. Originally published back in 1834 as "The Round Towers of Ireland", Henry O'Brien's The Round Towers Of Atlantis provides an insightful and thought-provoking inquiry and commentary on the lost civilization of Atlantis, pre-Christian megalithic architecture, ancient secret societies, the history of the Tuatha-de-Danaans, the origins of modern Celtic Christianity, the relationship and connections between Atlantis and Ireland, and much, much more. Enthusiastically recommended reading for students of occult and metaphysical studies, The Round Towers Of Atlantis is a treasury of arcane knowledge is preserved in this profound and meticulous account that has miraculously survived the test of time.

Sir Small and the Dragonfly (Step into Reading Books, Step I)
Published in Library Binding by Random Library (December, 1988)
Authors: Jane O'Connor, John Obrien, and John O'Brien
Average review score:

My favorite easy reader
Easy readers are tough to write, and this one is satisfying on just about every level -- funny and exciting, clever, a plot that works. Our two daughters learned to read with it, and now our son is, too.

A Wonderful starter book!
Though the book is listed as being for ages 4-8, we bought the book for my then 2-year-old son and it quickly became his favorite bedtime book. The story is adorable, as are the illustrations - and it's overriding message that it's okay to be different and that it's what's inside that counts - is very happy and positive. Even before he can actually read the words, my son has memorized the text, and actually quotes it back, complete with his own sound effects. It's a joy to read, and a book I highly recommend to all parents with toddlers!

Still, Deep Water
Published in Paperback by Vantage Press (June, 2000)
Authors: James J. Obrien and James J. O'Brien
Average review score:

Violence personified
You'll want to read this book. Its story has everything. It begins on a low key and gathers momentum with each page. There is love, violence, death, and eventual shock as the story reaches its climax. It is the best written work I have read recently.

Heredity reviewed
The author demonstrates that he is quite adept at sustaining the reader's interest and buildup of tension as it relates to the life and loves of Edward McCartney. The story moves at a fast pace with plenty of action. It should be considered one of the best narratives of the season. My recommendation is to read this book and feel the fluidity in which the various events and happenings are described.

Availability of book
Does anybody know where I would be able to purchase this book? Amazon does not have it in stock. I have a very strong interest in this book because I personally knew the author, spent much time with him and have since lost contact. If anybody can help me, i would really appreciate it. I hear it is a heart wrenching book and shocking to know such things can happen. Thanks!

I feel so much for you and your brothers
I am not a book reader and could never get into reading books until I read yours. I could not put it down. It touched my heart so much. It is absoulutely the best book I have ever read.

The Things They Carried (Cliffs Notes)
Published in Paperback by Cliffs Notes (December, 2000)
Author: Jill Colella
Average review score:

Jill Colella
I would like to publicly state that Jill Colella is a total babe.

Great study aid
Cliff's notes once again delivers as a fantastic study aid. By no means should you use this as a replacement for the book. O'Brien has emerged as one of the greatest modern writers on the subject of war, and it would be a pity to overlook his writing. But if you are looking for help to write a paper on the topic, or just curious to discover more about the underlying meaning of the novel, don't hesitate to buy Cliff's Notes.
